Marc Newson
set of five Bucky lounge chairs from the Fondation Cartier, Paris
Cimnaghi Giuseppe & Figlio Australia, 1995 cold-injected polyurethane foam with flocking, aluminum, nylon 120 w x 22.5 h inches
In 1995, Newson designed this form for an installation at the Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain. The individual elements were displayed connected together in the form of a three-quarter sphere. Only 50 examples of this chair were produced; its title Bucky was taken from the newly discovered molecule, the Buckminsterfullerene, named for its resemblance to Buckminster Fuller's geodesic structures. Set includes: display hardware, 5 nylon feet and aluminum connectors to create a mini geodesic dome. Signed and numbered to the underside of the red example: [Newson 5/50].
