| From a single-designer collection to a Marcel Breuer house, the Modern Design will include distinctive items that echo current trends. Stylish groupings reflect Wright’s pursuit of relevant, collectible works and emerging genres.
The growing interest in Scandinavian design is realized in a group of works by the likes of Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjaerholm, Ole Wanscher and Frits Henningsen. A rare desk by Jacobsen illustrates his reductive style and purity of form, while iconic chairs from Wegner and Henningsen demonstrate the stately rigor of Danish design. A handcrafted sensibility appears in a collection of mid-century Italian ceramics that display color, texture and pattern resonant with a contemporary aesthetic. Guido Gambone, Fausto Melotti, Renato Bassoli and Marcelo Fantoni items will be sold in collection-ready combinations. Works by the celebrated California designer Charles Hollis Jones has a chic appeal with the use of overtly glamorous elements. The premier collection of items represents a cross-section of his designs and recalls the style that he inaugurated. Other highlights include three lots by Carl Aubock and a suite of Hugh Newell Jacobsen furniture from a Florida commission. Following the multi-record breaking Harry Bertoia sale this past May, we will offer numerous works that span all areas of his career. |
