Post War + Contemporary Art
21 November 2006

Wright's first auction of Post War + Contemporary art will feature a broad array of works from one of art history's most exciting and diverse periods. A surrealistic Joseph Cornell box featuring the image of an iconic Medici figure ($150,000-200,000) will be offered alongside a Damien Hirst spin piece with concentric circles in effulgent colors ($12,000-15,000). A classic Josef Albers "Homage to the Square" painting ($100,000-150,000) represents the American post-war fascination with reductive abstraction and color theory, and several Richard Pettibone paintings explore pop masterworks of the '60s as viewed through the lens of Duchamp's earlier lesson of appropriation.

The auction will also feature works by other recent masters such as Andy Warhol, Robert Mangold, Sol Lewitt, David Hockney, and Ed Ruscha as well as work by contemporary artists John Baldessari, Barry McGee, Richard Prince, Thomas Ruff, and Yoshimoto Nara.

A Full-color catalog will be available for purchase.
