INFORMATION
Following a year of record-breaking sales, Wright kicks off the Spring 2007 season with its inaugural auction, Modern + Contemporary Design. The diverse selection of items ranges from classic to experimental with several lots that highlight the rapid progress and development of 20th century design across the decades. With the upcoming offerings, Wright continues their focused exploration of all areas of modern by showcasing carefully selected groupings.

A large selection of Art Deco works by Donald Deskey and Warren McArthur illustrate the pioneering, early uses of metal in furniture design, while a 1955 Volkswagon Beetle shows the mass-produced application of the material. Ever-popular Danish designer Poul Kjaerholm is represented by several lots of some of his most recognizable forms including a chair and sofa from his PK 31 series. Craftsmen Paul Evans and Donald Drumm demonstrate hand-made metalwork with their more contemporary visions.

The auction will also feature an unmatched collection of Edward Wormley’s designs for Dunbar. Focusing on accessibility and quality, Wormley’s forms elevated the collection of furniture to a new level within mainstream culture. With Wright’s current selection, one can see his aesthetic that stems from an acute sense of decoration, proportion and grace.

The most radical and daring lot in the sale is artist Michael Jantzen’s M-house, an experimental retreat that can be assembled anywhere. Jantzen has been creating innovative houses for nearly forty years, and the M-house represents his interest in changing the way we live through a unique synthesis of adaptability and sustainability.

The auction will also feature works by: Harry Bertoia, Paul Frankl, Valdimir Kagan, Shiro Kuramata, Borge Mogensen, George Nakashima, George Nelson, Marc Newson, Gio Ponti, T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, Ettore Sottsass, Philip Starck, Hans Wegner, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
