1440 West Hubbard Street Chicago 60622
Wright will showcase a wide range of styles
and trends of the twentieth century in the first major design auction
of the fall. From the turn of the century there are several
noteworthy designs, including a cast iron ornamental detail from
the Chicago Stock Exchange by Louis Sullivan and a samovar in hand-wrought
brass by Josef Hoffmann.
A rare occasional table by Walter von Nessen illustrates the height
of American Art Deco and its simplified forms. Several
works by Vladimir Kagan are juxtaposed against designs by Paul
Evans and Phil Powell which show an unexpected cohesive mood in the
East Coast design studios during the 1960s. Chic French style
is showcased in a collection of designs by Gabriella Crespi, Kim Moltzer
and Michel Boyer with earlier French precedents by Jean Prouve, Jean
Royere and Georges Jouve.
Other highlights include work by Hans Coper, Art Smith, Donald
Drumm and a large collection of artwork by Harry Bertoia. Fashionable
contemporary design continues its rise in the market with several works
represented in the auction. A collection of biomorphic designs
by Marc Newson is shown along side a sofa by the Dutch architect Ben
van Berkel, a Vermelha chair by the Campana Brothers and a pair of chairs
by Mats Theselius.
